Windshield Wipers: Part Two
Well I really went out on a limb this time; the people at GM and the Department of Transportation will hate this, but I replaced my 22 inch wipers on my Chevy pick-up with 20 inch long wipers!
And what did I find? I can't see one inch of rainy sky at the top of my window and an other inch of wet hood at the bottom. Because of the shorter length there is less skipping and chatter and that annoying rubbing sound is gone when the rain is light and the wipers are in pulse mode. Winter can't get here soon enough. I expect these shorter wiper blades will be less prone to ice build-up and will extend the life of the wiper motor.
Next year, if this experiment works out, I'm going to try 18 inch blades. Now before you all go out half-cocked and put tiny little blades on your car, let this on-the-road test run for a year.
Which reminds me, I need to check the air in my tires...
