Micigan Democrat's Loss of Power

I don’t think that we have yet to fully appreciate the depth of bitterness and anger this country has in its heart toward the Big Three and the UAW. I have had the chance to travel to many regions in America and I heard some surprising things:
• Americans really did have a “Love Affair” with our cars but poor quality, lack of long term value (rapid depreciation), poor fuel mileage, and the “take it or leave it” attitude of the carmakers led to this very messy divorce being played out in Congress.
• The arrogance of Mark Brewer and the Michigan Democrats with their ill-advised power play in the primaries was the last straw. (Too bad we didn’t keep the latter regular primary day; Michigan would have been the King maker to a Hillary or Barack Presidential bid)
• The Yankee, Catholic UAW will struggle long and hard to make even a dent organizing the Confederate, Baptist South (Yes the Civil War goes on still)
• The Big Three’s best customers were themselves. They sold way too many cars and trucks for way too little money to employees, retirees, family, friends and fleets driving down the average price and alienating those that could not get the discounts. In the meantime The Big Three kept automating, outsourcing (including to the South) and then laying off their best customers!
• The era of the gasoline powered internal combustion engine (maybe 30% efficient) is over. Electric motor (up to97% efficient!) driven vehicles are the future. Meaning all research, engineering, design, testing and production of gas motors and their transmissions will cease leading to many more lay-offs as those facilities are closed
• The UAW and the Michigan Democrats have become so intertwined they have both lost their hearts and now are confused, hurt and moribund. Just look at the recent spectacle of Detroit’s Mayor and the free-for-all to fill his seat: absolutely no party discipline here
• The UAW forgot the most basic tenant of negotiation: the bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. The bubble of empty promises is all they got

But let’s move forward; the Congress, after exacting revenge will approve some money and take control of the auto industry bringing to heel the Michigan Democrats. This will complete the fundamental shift of power from the industrial North and East to the South and West and the service and technology sectors. Some of the things that should happen in this brave new political world are:
• As Americans we need to get control of our love lives and realize that lust for consumer products does not define who we are. Hard work, saving and investing for future generations should be our legacy
• Mark Brewer must go
• The UAW must free its self from the Democratic party and the narrow focus on auto manufacturing and be able to freely support candidates in either party becoming a spoiler or King maker
• The auto makers must sell cars fairly to all customers and look to build reliable, long lasting and valuable cars
• The Federal Government must fund development of photovoltaic (solar) gathering of electricity, super high efficient battery storage and wireless transmission of power (all technologies that are possible but need huge investments to become practical)
• The City of Detroit must elect their council by district to be as least as powerful as the Mayor to stop the bleeding and politically heal and stabilize South-East Michigan

We should be able to rely on our elected government but in the end the strength of our Spirit will define who we are as individuals.
