Muslims and God
I now believe that western Christian (not religion) thought is if one empties oneself of human emotions (desire, greed, love, happiness) a silent empty place is opened for the Spirit to flow into; God can reside in a human being. So any action we do to ourselves and others we do as God as our personnel witness. (wash your hands and mind your manners!)
Muslims may believe that God is a great power somewhere outside of humans and this world. So why not kill or treat badly other humans? They have made God into an image of themselves. Rationalization to the extreme! Much different than accepting God (in whatever form God happens to be) into the cool, silent emptiness of non-self.

Disagree with your thoughts on Islam. What you actually describe instead is fundamental religions in general imho. Get to know some 'modern thinking' Muslim's. They want love and peace just like the rest of us. God did not create any religion, just spirit. Spirit can flow through any one person by choice.
Thanks for commenting! I feel the same way too: But I have talked with many folks that believe God is some sort of human being with super natural powers. and it does not take on any form we could recognize in our living human experience. The best description that I've been able to come up with is Pure Peace, like Like Liquid Light - a very real energy-like Spirit, that like you say is available to anyone that can empty their Soul to make a place for the Spirit.
I believe in this Spirit that you talk about.
